I chose Technology
in the Kitchen Classroom for my blog for a couple of reasons. First of all, I
love technology and I really believe as a Cook, Chef, Baker or Pastry Chef you
must utilize it to its fullest to be successful.
In
terms of the technology used in the kitchen itself you can be successful with
or without it as we see many great kitchens or bakeries use classic cooking and
baking techniques with great success. Wood fired ovens have been around for
literally a thousand years and we have seen a big resurgence of this cooking
technique. However on a large scale it would be difficult for something like
the Airline Industry to be successful with wood fired ovens. Larger food
production usually requires modern techniques to streamline production. In my
opinion as the production scale goes up so does the use of technology
(production technology) to be successful.
Social
Media however is certainly important at every level of production but may be
more important to small business owners who utilize it to their full advantage.
Though businesses usually make or break themselves you can enhance your
audience and business through the use of Facebook, Foursquare, Maps, Search
Engines and other social networks. As we have seen many cases where Social
Media can make or break a business based on positive or negative reviews. A
quick Google search you can reveal the best and worst reviewed establishments
around the world. Certainly a powerful tool and one that should be harnessed by
the purveyor and the customer.
As an Instructor I
try utilize both technology for production and computer technology to enhance
the educational experience and teach new trends in such a diverse profession.
